Battlefield 6's Relaxed Playlist Sparks Heated Debates Over Bots, Experience Points, and Queue Times
Recently, Battlefield Studios launched a fresh playlist titled Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode resembles the standard Breakthrough format but includes a few notable adjustments:
- Each team has just 8 human participants, with the remaining made up of 32 bots.
- Activities performed by human gamers grant complete experience points, while bot actions offer reduced XP.
- Only two locations are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
- Elements like Player tags, accolades, and stat tracking have been turned off.
In short, this mode delivers on its name: it offers a casual take of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume it's a good idea, since it gives additional choices for gamers seeking different ways to have fun with the title. However, if video games has shown one thing, it's that not everyone will be happy. In other words, many BF6 fans are upset.
Player Responses: Anger to Praise
"Gamers prefer real players. Avoid making the errors of your competitors," states a response to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing idea," says another. Meanwhile, in community forums, a player notes, "I have no idea where we are headed with this game," and someone else details all the issues they consider to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this bot mode."
However, amid the criticism, some gamers explaining how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's very fun to warm up, real players keep it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," says a forum post. "The community fails to see that there are players who have lives and don't play this title 24/7. Allow them to strike a balance," states a different comment. One reply on Twitter explains that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is perfect for me," while another applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Valid Concerns and Community Feedback
All that said, players have constructive reasons to criticize Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have highlighted that it could increase queue times more extended for different playlists because of the large amount of playlists currently available. Similarly, certain regions often face AI-filled matches in the current modes. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a required amount of human gamers, even though it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.
Lastly, one of the biggest complaints is that a previous feature was promised to provide complete rewards, including AI matches, but that was removed when they tried to remove XP farming from the mode. So Casual Breakthrough feels like the player base compromising in the middle, as per forum feedback. Another labels this mode as the developers "making a mistake significantly, I had great enjoyment in the first couple of days, what prompted them to adjust it?"
Future Prospects: Adjustments Occur?
If Battlefield Studios has proven anything to date with the latest installment, it is that they're paying attention and acting on feedback. Assignments being too difficult got fixed very quickly, just like the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, if their data shows this new playlist isn't performing to their expectations, they won't be shy to change it again.
