Brian Eno Encourages Backing to Send Palestinian Solidarity Track to UK Holiday Chart Peak.
A charity drive is aiming to propel a traditional song from Palestine to the Christmas number one spot. The project hopes to send support to Gaza's residents while also showcasing Palestinian artistic heritage.
An Opportunity for Unity and an "Chart Upset"
Composer and producer Brian Eno, who performs on the track, stated that the song titled Lullaby represents a moment to stand with Palestinians over the Christmas period. He remarked the potential for an surprise number one.
“That would be amazing if that occurred, yes,” he stated. “I won't be completely disheartened if it fails to, Christmas singles are a thing unto themselves.”
Defiant Message of Self-Determination
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who features in the version of a cultural piece called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's resilient spirit.
“It has a very special place for countless listeners,” Barghouti said. “The essence is that I would prefer a dignified death than exist without freedom. That’s the main theme of the song; we want to live a respectful existence that we deserve as Palestinians.”
Track's Background and Star-Studded Lineup
The song was recorded in the wake of a major charity concert held in the autumn. Originally intended to be captured during the live event, the piece was omitted from the lengthy event due to scheduling overruns.
The impressive roster of musicians featured on Lullaby features a selection of well-known figures from the industry. All were part of the September show, which reportedly raised a significant sum for humanitarian aid.
Creation and Launch
Lullaby was brought to life by a group of music creators. The track showcases a mix of the traditional Arabic lyrics with contemporary English verses.
The group managing the initiative have clarified that their goal is to generate maximum funds for a charitable pot. These donations will be channeled to initiatives supporting Palestinians through an established charity.
“There is no a rigid aim,” a representative explained. “We aim for whatever we can get. Of course, the more the merrier. All proceeds are directed out to those in need in Gaza.”
The reality in the territory was characterized as its extreme devastation, with a huge proportion of infrastructure reportedly in ruins or severely impacted.
“Against that backdrop, a couple of million doesn’t make an enormous impact. But I think what truly matters is first of all spreading knowledge of this plight and showing the human dimension of the story.”
The track is launching at the end of the week. Additionally, a complete film of the charity concert will be made accessible to view on a popular streaming site from mid-December.
