Followers Call for Detainment of Individual Who Seized Ariana Grande
Loyal followers of the pop star are urging that a man who jumped a fence and seized the performer during Thursday's Wicked: For Good premiere be taken into custody or removed from Singapore.
A widely shared footage reveals the Australian man pushing past photographers and lunging at Grande while the performers proceeded down a yellow carpet flanked by fans.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo immediately pulled the stunned star away from Mr Wen, who was observed being removed of the premiere by event staff.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "let go after being taken in", though official papers indicated that he was due to be present on Friday morning. It is uncertain if he was formally accused.
Pattern of Disruptions
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Troll Most Hated", has invaded a celebrity gathering. His Instagram account contains clips of him disrupting other star-studded functions, including jumping on stage at the pop singer's Sydney show in recently and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers event in the area last year.
"Steps should be implemented applied against him as this is evidently a criminal offence," stated an Instagram follower, in a response to a video Mr Wen posted of his behavior.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" another Instagram user remarked.
Supporters Show Disapproval Over the Star's Past Trauma
Several supporters accused Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had revealed suffering from PTSD after a terrorist explosion at the conclusion of her 2017 concert in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and wounding many.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" wrote another message on Instagram.
Several supporters also questioned guards at the Thursday event for not being sufficiently alert; while different individuals called for digital services to ban Mr Wen's videos.
Reaction and Premiere Information
In videos spreading on the internet, Grande seemed surprised when she was grabbed by the intruder. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted consoling her while Mr Wen was escorted away by staff.
Grande has not commented on the incident, and the remaining proceedings proceeded as normal.
Hundreds of attendees had congregated in a sea of emerald and rose at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific debut in a Singapore venue, including several who had waited for as long as many hours before it began.
The movie, to be premiered on the 21st of November, is the second of a dual interpretation of the well-known Broadway and West End musical Wicked, which revolves around the unexpected friendship between two contrasting witches.
The production itself is a spin-off of the 1900 book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the character Glinda Glinda, was decked out in a champagne pink sequin dress at the event while Erivo, who acts as the villainous character, wore a elegant ensemble embroidered with roses.
They were joined by fellow actor Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the top-earning film of 2024 in the UK, and received ten Academy Award nods, winning a pair for outstanding attire and production design.
