The winter recruitment period is typically a period of significant speculation and possible big-money deals. A number of high-profile stars find themselves connected to moves out of their present clubs. Here is a look at a selection of the top figures who might be on the move this month.

Antoine Semenyo

Recent developments indicate Manchester City look to have won the race for his services. M. Guéhi

With his contract due to expire in the close season, January is the London club's final opportunity to obtain a transfer fee for their captain. The veteran German shot-stopper finds himself as the third option at Barça following new coach Flick. After lost his place and undergone surgery, a January exit seems highly probable. Aston Villa were once linked as a potential suitor, but that move now appears off. Instead, clubs from Turkey and Saudi Arabia are thought to be showing interest in the keeper.

Kees Smit

The much-admired Netherlands teenage midfielder has earned comparisons to Kevin De Bruyne for his playing style. After starring at the Under-19 European Championship, he has broken into the AZ Alkmaar side. This teenager is widely expected to make a major move this month. Newcastle are believed to be leading the chase, but are facing strong rivalry from Real Madrid for a signing priced at approximately twenty-two million pounds.
