Shoah Survivors Demand Nigel Farage to Make Amends Over Alleged Anti-Jewish Remarks.

A group of Holocaust survivors has insisted that Nigel Farage be honest and apologise for reported anti-Jewish comments he reportedly directed toward Jewish students during his time at school.

The political party leader has previously stated he never racially abused anyone with the aim to hurt, framing it may have been mere "childish teasing".

"As Shoah survivors, we grasp the profound danger of bigoted language – for we have seen where such words ultimately lead," declared the survivors in a open letter.

"We must be unambiguous: praising Hitler, mimicking gas chambers, or hurling racist abuse is not teasing. Not on a schoolyard. Not anywhere."

An Unequivocal Demand

The letter puts forth straightforward questions to the political figure: "Are the claims accurate that you stated ‘Hitler was right’ and ‘gas them,’ accompanied by mimicking gas chambers? Did you expose your classmates to antisemitic abuse?"

The Signatories

The collective of eleven survivors features individuals with devastating personal stories from the Nazi genocide.

• Hedi Argent, who was bereaved of 27 members of her family.
• Simon Winston, who was held in a ghetto before escaping in 1942 and living through the rest of the war concealed.
• Anita Lasker-Wallfisch, who was imprisoned at Auschwitz-Birkenau and later incarcerated at Bergen-Belsen, where she was freed.

Additional names on the letter include Janine Webber, Edith Jayne, Helen Aronson, Ruth Barnett, John Fieldsend, Susan Pollack, Hanneke Dye and Agnes Kaposi.

Growing Accounts

This intervention follows the characterisation of corroborating allegations by more than several dozen alumni and teachers as "made-up twaddle" by a senior party figure.

Since the initial report, additional former pupils have come forward. Twenty-eight former pupils and teachers now state they observed racist or antisemitic behaviour by him.

One notable account comes from Peter Ettedgui, a Jewish-born award-winning director, who has stated that a young Farage would come near him and say the phrases "Hitler was right" and "gas them", at times adding a long hiss to imitate the sound of the gas chambers.

Additional alumni from ethnic minorities have likewise shared experiences with allegations of targeted insults.

• Cyrus Oshidar claimed he was called a "racial slur" and has dismissed the idea that such actions were without intent.
• Another individual with Asian roots portrayed him as an "avowed bigot" who would use the phrase "Enoch Powell was correct" as a form of "ethnic harassment".

A Concluding Demand

The final appeal asks a concluding challenge to Farage: "By denying saying those words, do you mean that 20 former classmates and teachers are not telling the truth? If the words were spoken, now is the opportunity to take responsibility and say sorry."
