Slot Maintains He Feels Safe and Retains The Club's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Defeat
Arne Slot acknowledged that it's natural for questions to be raised about his position after another convincing defeat versus the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their ninth defeat in twelve games, marking the club's poorest streak after being demoted in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie champions on a difficult evening at Anfield.
“I'm confident, things are alright, I've received significant backing from the top,” Slot remarked.
“It would be nice to change things and get a victory of course but when you're coaching a team and not doing well then it's typical that questions are asked.”
He noted, “I'm comfortable with my role. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a tough spot but it's crucial that we turned it around.”
Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to provide details on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot said:
“We talk a lot. They assist to the team and for me and those talks happen but they don't phone me constantly of the day to say they back me.”
He added, “In the normal conversations we have I sense the confidence. But I haven’t spoken to them since this match yet so it remains to be seen.”
Persistent Issues and Squad Response
The manager highlighted recurring shortcomings from his team in their European defeat, specifically missed opportunities and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the solutions. Truthfully, I don’t. I’m saying that to all,” Jones remarked.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don't need to wait to reflect. I’m past being angry internally. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He continued, “It's tough because I’m playing for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I've watched Liverpool all my life.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Reds side enduring a phase like this with outcomes so bad.”
Jones finished, “However we still have the emblem on our chest. And until it is taken away, we’re always going to fight.”
“We’re going to try to help the side return to where it needs to be, prove once more what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the greatest side in the planet.”
“However currently, we’re in the shit and we have to turn it around.”
