One of the co-founders of the famous ice cream brand Ben and Jerry's has claimed that corporate owner the multinational conglomerate blocked the launch for a new Palestine-themed ice cream flavor.

The entrepreneur, that established the company with his partner, disclosed that he will independently develop the controversial flavor as part of a personal collection highlighting issues Ben & Jerry's was prevented from speaking out about.

Longstanding Conflict Between Creators versus Parent Company

The recent development escalates the continuing disagreement between the world-famous dessert company with its corporate parent, the UK-based consumer goods corporation which acquired Ben & Jerry's for over two decades.

The co-founders have claimed how the parent company along with their ice cream division the Magnum brand improperly prevented Ben & Jerry's from "maintaining its activist principles".

Watermelon Sorbet as an Emblem for Support

Mr. Cohen revealed via social media that he's developing a new watermelon-flavored sorbet, asking for public suggestions for naming options plus potential ingredients.

“I'm doing what they couldn't,” Mr. Cohen stated from a cooking set. “I'm making a watermelon-flavored ice cream that advocates for permanent peace in Palestine while demanding repairing the damage that was done there.”

This particular fruit has emerged as a symbol for solidarity with Palestinians because of its colors, which match those of Palestine's national banner – the distinctive four-color pattern.

Historical Activism and Recent Developments

In 2021, the ice cream company ceased sales of their merchandise in territories occupied by Israel, leading to the parent company selling their Israel business over to an Israeli distributor, thus allowing continued sales within the occupied West Bank.

The new dessert series is being created through Mr. Cohen's personal brand, the socially conscious dessert company that originally created several years back for endorsing former political contender Senator Sanders via the product "Bernie's Return".

Leadership Shifts plus Upcoming Plans

The founder stated how he plans to create other ice cream flavors that address issues that the company was silenced from addressing publicly by corporate restrictions.

This development follows co-founder Mr. Greenfield resigned from the company recently, following decades with the organization, citing worries that the company's autonomy was compromised following corporate moves to curb its social activism.

Previously, Ben Cohen remarked how "Jerry has strong compassion and this conflict with our parent company was breaking it."

"My heart compels me to keep working inside the company to fight for corporate autonomy ensuring that the company can actualise its ethical purpose, the principles which it was founded on and has maintained for decades," he told journalists.
