The network's Top New Show of 2025 Gets a Substantial Extension for an Additional Two Seasons.

During the fall season, Adult Swim saw the return of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, not long after, the channel unveiled a fresh animated series with a strikingly different vibe. Haha, You Clowns was heartwarming and calm, evoking a cartoon version of a serene talk show. At a time often marked by bleakness, this show's wholesomeness struck a chord and helped it become a surprise hit.

A Major Commitment

On December 18th, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two more seasons. This gives creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three polite teenage brothers whose primary trait is their strong bond for their single father, with Cappa portraying for all four main characters.

"I’m so grateful to the viewers of the show who took a chance on the show and spread the word," said Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for seasons to come."

Network Praise

Accompanying the news praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and strangely uncanny." He thanked the fans who discovered the show and supported its uniquely offbeat style.

"All of you supported this new show, rooted for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Comforting Counterpoint

Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. It offers something surprisingly comfy about observing this charming family navigate their everyday routines.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa stated his goal to help comedy break out of its long-running layer of irony. He linked this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we are trapped in,” said Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we need to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

The Path Forward

Now, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa could potentially be part of that comedic shift. At a minimum, the renewal ensures audiences a little more time to experience the gentle humor of the beloved Campbell clan.

The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The complete first season is available for streaming on HBO Max.
