The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named Six Seven Spared by Miami-Dade Mayor.
It might not have been at the identical stature as sparing holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade experienced a ceremonial pardon event this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with clear references to the sheer volume of pardons issued from the start of the commencement of a new presidential term.
“Except perhaps for eating six or seven apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future without fear.”
The event, either celebrating or rejecting the area's customary feast of eating roast pork during the holidays, was established to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The animal, donated by a first responder, was named for the modern linguistic fad of young people yelling “six-seven” – deriving from a rap song lyric – often seemingly at random. The trend became so ubiquitous that a major dictionary recently named “six-seven” its top term for the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
Six Seven the pig is now set to enjoy its days at a countryside refuge “away from grills and cookware”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“This swine clemency has become a cherished method to kick off the holiday season,” said Eric Castellanos, in a decidedly positive message.
“It captures the character of Miami: vibrant, diverse, and rooted in traditions that bring people together. Annually, we are proud to celebrate heritage and mercy in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Attendees enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and strong coffee as they celebrated Six Seven’s big moment.
