The President Welcomes Loved Ones of Injured Guard Members to the White House
Former President Donald Trump revealed on the weekend that he has asked the loved ones of a National Guard member tragically killed last week to attend the presidential home.
He noted that he contacted her parents and they were “heartbroken”.
Background on the Tragic Event
Specialist Beckstrom, twenty years old, was fatally shot in a attack on Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her colleague, Andrew Wolfe, 24, remains hospitalized in critical condition.
Memorials across West Virginia have taken place in their remembrance.
Presidential Invitation
The president stated he’s talked about a meeting at the presidential residence for the loved ones of both individuals of the state National Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a tough thing, visit the White House. We’re going to recognize Sarah,” the president addressed the press. “And likewise with Andrew, no matter the outcome.”
Public Reaction
Mourners came together over the weekend at Webster County high school in West Virginia to remember Beckstrom.
Both they had been fulfilling duties with the state guard as part of Trump’s federal initiative to support law enforcement in Washington DC.
Honoring Sarah Beckstrom
“She was the individual that teachers hoped for. She behaved with calm resilience, a warm expression and a optimistic attitude that lifted those around her,” the principal, the head of her former high school, informed the press. “She was kind, caring and always eager to support those in need.”
Funeral plans for Sarah are still being arranged.
Judicial Steps and Government Adjustments
Law enforcement have charged a 29-year-old suspect with a charge of first-degree murder and two counts of assault with intent to kill while armed.
The tragedy prompted the Trump administration to suspend asylum processing and halt granting visas to owners of passports from Afghanistan.
Status of Wolfe
The airman, a native of the city, started his military career in 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of his local high school, per the news agency.
He is still undergoing care and is “battling to survive”, the state’s leader Patrick Morrisey said on television.
The state’s top lawyer the attorney general told Fox News Sunday that she also intended to speak to the family.
Legacy of Sarah Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from her hometown, graduated from her high school in June 2023 and joined the military shortly after, serving as a law enforcement officer with excellence, as stated by the state guard.
“She had a lot of kindness and she definitely had fortitude,” the governor addressed the audience at the service. “Though her life lasted far too short, she has made an impact that’s going to be remembered always.”
