Two Victims Revealed in the Ivy League School Incident as Law Enforcement Persist in Manhunt for Perpetrator.

The pair of scholars who lost their lives in the recent tragic incident on the university campus were being remembered Monday – while an intensive search for their shooter continued following the freeing by Rhode Island officials of the only individual of interest in the case.

Remembering Ella Cook

Ella Cook, a sophomore from Alabama, was described as “an amazing, stable, pious, radiant soul”, according to the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Birmingham, which honored her memory at a gathering on Sunday.

Her role included second-in-command of Brown’s branch of College Republicans of America, according to the organization. Karoline Leavitt also expressed sympathies on social media, stating: “There are no words. Remembering her loved ones and companions, above all her mom and dad.”

An International Student

The other person killed was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov from Uzbekistan, from Uzbekistan in his initial year at the prestigious university, family members said.

The victim's identification was verified by the foreign office of Uzbekistan.

“He possessed remarkable kindness, humor, and intelligence. He harbored grand aspirations of becoming a neurosurgeon and assisting patients,” his sister, Samira Umurzokova said in a memorial statement.

Details of the Attack

Nine other people were wounded in the weekend shooting in the engineering department of Brown’s campus in Providence, during the institution's end-of-term tests.

Authorities said late Sunday that a 24-year-man arrested in a search at a lodging about around 27 kilometers from the campus earlier in the day was released from custody.

“A perpetrator remains free,” stated Rhode Island’s attorney general, Peter Neronha.

Neronha explained, “Occasionally a probe goes down a path, and then you have to regroup and head another way, and that’s exactly what has happened over the last approximately one day.”

Public Fear

Providence’s mayor, Brett Smiley, admitted: “This will probably generate new worry for our public”.

The assailant began shooting inside a room in the engineering building on Saturday, shooting over four dozen bullets from a 9mm pistol, a law enforcement official told the news agency.

Police that searched the lodging recovered two handguns and magazines when the person of interest was detained, as was reported.

Those Hurt

Among those wounded, one student was released from the hospital, stated Brown’s president, Christina Paxson. An additional seven were in grave but unchanging health, and another was critically ill, police said on Sunday.

A private school, a private academy in North Carolina, said a recent graduate, Kendall Turner, was in the group of seriously hurt victims.

More Condolences

Tributes were paid to Cook at a church service in Birmingham on Sunday. A clergyman said, “She shone as a remarkable, stable, devout beacon not only during her upbringing... but at Brown University she was a shining example in that particular place as well.”

A group leader, Martin Bertao, shared a message from the group. “She was famed for her courageous, valiant, and compassionate nature as she worked for her branch and peers,” he said.

Jonathan Henick, Jonathan Henick, said he was “deeply saddened” by the student's death in a tribute. “We extend our sincere condolences to the Umurzokov family, companions, and peers and grieve for of his promising future.”

The weekend's murders at Brown, the nation’s seventh-oldest college with about 7,300 undergraduate and postgraduate students, occurred during one of at least nearly 400 mass shootings documented across the United States so far in 2025, according to records.
